To download our maps onto the Avenza Maps app, on the app's My Maps page, tap the + button (usually an orange circle with a plus sign inside) and at the next page, choose "download or impart a map" on that page, choose download via a URL.  All of the files interface with the GPS in your phone or tablet. Once they are downloaded (before your trip) they are completely independent of the need for cellular coverage.  As long as your phone or tablet can "see" GPS satellites the app will work and give you a location solution accurate within one meter anywhere within the map's coverage.
